What the Prop 8 YouTubes will look like. Watch the court’s geeks testing the system.
Ah, here we go… AGAIN…
Because I utterly adore Courage Campaign’s Julia Rosen, I am forcing myself to learn one more means of communicating with the world. Believe me, there will be a time when these young whippersnappers will realize the inconvenience they are placing on us old fogeys- and then they’ll be sorry! So there! ;)
I digress. Finding as I age that it is far easier to start ranting and rambling and going off topic and… hey is that a squirrel?
You get the point.
In 2009, I seriously jeopardized my Luddite status by switching over to a laptop with a touchpad mouse and wireless internet capabilities. Learned how to search for wireless connections at the State House and tried my hand at liveblogging. Got my very own Facebook and Twitter accounts, learned how to embed videos and photos- hell, I learned how to use a digital camera and TAKE my own videos and photos, then upload my own stuff into my blog posts.
Got a Blackberry- still getting the hang of that little pink thing that I have to take my glasses off to see and never remember to keep charged up. YES I KNOW I NEED BIFOCALS- DO NOT NAG ME. ;)
I still have no idea how to text or even how to check voice mails. A gal has her limits!
To think a year ago, I was blissfully ignorant of all of these advances that the kids on the No On 1 team take for granted and understand easily. Here I was, confused by ‘how on earth does one do a conference call?’ while they whizzed past me, communicating expertly and effortlessly with at least 32 other people simultaneously.
Sigh.
So here I am, my dear Julia. Grumbling and grumpy, but here. Have patience with me; I plan on blogging (or whatever the NEXT technical jump will be called!) for a very long time…
Yaaay! And thanks for the kind words Louise!
A bunch of geeky politico friends have teamed up for a little competition. Which one of us can complete the following tasks:
- Go to the gym and/or workout 180 times.
- See every film nominated for an Oscar for best picture.
- Visit 2 major cities that you’ve never visited before.
- Read 1 book for each month, for twelve months.
- Write 5 letters by hand.
- Visit 5 Museums you’ve never been to.
- Get writing published.
- Launch or redesign your personal website.
- Travel to at least one country you’ve never visited.
- Learn to cook at least one new meal each month.
I’m usually in the gym 3 times a week, so it’s going to be an effort to average 3.75 a week. Netflix makes #2 easy. Dallas is upcoming next month for #3. I read wicked fast, but need to get recommendations for these books (thems the rules) for #4. Letters will be something new for me. I’ll need to go out of my way for the museums, likely in new cities, though I’ve never been to the Crocker here in Sacto. I’ve been wanting to write up a Courage organizing campaign as a case study, so that should work for #7. Ruck Pad def can use a facelift. No clue where I’m gonna go for #9 but I have 66k miles on United and a savings account for some travel :) #10 is gonna be tough, since I live alone and have to serve it to others. Not one usually to host people for dinner, but enjoy cooking.
In short, this seems do-able, but will take some effort for sure. The fun part will be sharing it with everyone. We’re all documenting it on Tumbler: http://10in10.tumblr.com/
Talk about managing expectations…
Karen Occam has a post up over at LGBT POV. I’m working on one for Calitics.
